about

“The stories are fictional, but they are honest. My goal is bringing a little bit of Hollywood to the Netherlands, and vice versa.”

Christine Mooijer (b. 1990) grew up in the small town Volendam, close to Amsterdam in distance, but a world of difference in everything else. Her staged cinematic stories feature both her realistic Dutch roots shaped by her Catholic upbringing, and the drama and grandeur of Hollywood, where she found the room to become her own person outside of expectations of her surroundings. Influenced by Hollywood movies from an early age, her portraits focus on women as the main characters in their own stories, after seeing them mostly take supporting roles, both on film and in real life. The American dream, loneliness and mental health issues are common themes in these female-led stories. They highlight moments of introspection, where the women grapple with their sometimes conflicting emotions.

After receiving her BA in Photography in Amsterdam in 2018, Christine’s work has been exhibited in a wide range of group exhibitions across Europe and the United States, including Photo LA’s Open Show in Los Angeles (2021), CLUSTER’s ‘Metamorphosis’ in London, England (2025), Art-Icon’s ‘Corporeality’ in Paris, France (2024) and ‘Static Cinema’ in Venice, Italy (2025). Her photography was also featured in the first Art-Icon book (also featuring works by Roger Ballen and David Lynch), GUP’s Fresh Eyes 2020 and in New Dutch Photography Talent 2019. In 2026, she held her first solo exhibition Expand Horizon in Atelier K84 in Amsterdam.

I’m currently based out of Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Please feel free to reach out, I’d love to connect!
